Practical and Decorative Garden Fencing

The basic purpose of garden fences is to provide a line that can be to mark a property perimeter, offer a security barrier or to give privacy. Nevertheless, there is no reason why decorative garden fencing cannot be practical as well.

There are numerous ways to satisfy all those goals and more. For instance, an electric pet fence can be hidden to provide an invisible line or can it can be above ground. Either option will serve to keep pets safe and within sight, and perhaps more importantly, out of the neighbor's property.

Of course, this a two way street and as well as keeping your pets in, other animals can be kept out. Deer, rabbits and several other wild animals often live near human populations and they can intrude on a garden or lawn and turn all of your hard work into a meal for themselves.

Decorative Garden Fencing Building practical and decorative garden fencing is straightforward and reasonably cheap and it is the surest way to keep that problem to a minimum. Sinking fence posts is typically the most difficult part of the whole job. However, provided it is done correctly, it does not have to be a nightmare.

Many larger properties have the same requirements but on a greater scale which can make the fence potentially much more costly. However, there are designs that can lessen that problem. Simple post and rail, wire or mesh, and many other types are relatively cheap and very easy to erect.

One special application of that situation arises for those who choose to board horses. Nowadays, that is far more common than in the past few decades, as former suburbanites move farther and farther from traditional neighborhoods. Luckily, building a secure and safe border to enclose horses is easier than many other styles of fencing.

Any fence, irrespective of its application, brings the need to choose a material and a style.

Wooden garden fences are a traditional choice and one that remains enormously popular. There is just no getting around the inherent natural beauty of real wood. Nowadays, they come in numerous different styles and are made from an assortment of species, such as cedar, pine or redwood.

All require some type of treatment, such as stain, shellac or oil. Thanks to modern-day technology, there are countless choices, all of them effective in the right application.

Other types of technology have increased the options in garden fencing, as it has in so many areas of the home. Vinyl fencing can often closely resemble wood and provides an attractive and very long lasting option that is ultra-easy to care for. Composites come even closer to having the look of real wood and many require no treatment. Chain link has even advanced beyond the conventional grey metal to become not only inexpensive and sturdy but also highly attractive and decorative garden fencing.

That last aspect, after all, should not be neglected. A fence has to be practical, but it should also be ornamental. Whether it is an old-fashioned wrought iron spear or a contemporary geometric design, a barrier can add beauty while it offers protection. Although that feature may evolve, it is never likely to go out of fashion.
